As a pioneering master planned community, Rancho Bernardo became the model for success throughout the country.  Originally developed as a seniors community in the 1960’s, it grew into a variety of residential communities with a thriving business center in San Diego’s North County.  Defined by its architectural standards, the views include a sea of red-tile roofs across the golf course and mountain views.  With near perfect year round weather, Rancho Bernardo sports a beautiful landscape of rolling hills refreshed by ocean breezes.  Its golf courses, parks, and natural settings are surrounded by several unique communities, each defined by its own community center.

We are looking south on I-15 across Rancho Bernardo Road through the center of RB.  The Town Center commercial district is left of the freeway and the RB Business Park is right of the freeway.  The RB library is just outside the lower left corner of this photo.  The undeveloped dogleg shaped lot just to the right of the freeway near the top is the future site of the Rancho Bernardo Rapid Transit Center.  It will have drop ramps directly into the HOV lanes of the I-15 Managed Lanes project, which is scheduled to begin operations by late 2007 or early 2008. This picture shows construction on I-15 for the Managed Lanes Project. Progress is shaping up on the Direct Access Ramps which will connect the High Occupancy Vehical (HOV) Lanes with the future Rancho Benardo Transit Center. The project, a joint venture by Caltrans and SANDAG will bring new Transit Services to the I-15 Corridor. (photo by George Cooke taken October 2007)

This is the view looking west across the top of Battle mountain and the Rancho Bernardo Community Park.  Interstate-15 runs from left to right (south to north) across the center of the photo.  A portion of Westwood Valley can be seen in the upper left and Casa de las Campanas is to the right of the RB Community Park.  Lake Hodges (before the 2005 rainy season) is in the background.  The homes seen below the freeway are in the gated community of Bernardo Vista Del Lago. RB Swim and Tennis Club
This is the northeast corner of Rancho Bernardo Road and Bernardo Oaks Drive, one block south of Pomerado Road. Bernardo Oaks Drive runs from right to left at the bottom of the photo towards the Rancho Bernardo Inn. The RB Swim & Tennis Club is one of the oldest and most widely used recreation centers in Rancho Bernardo. It serves many of RB's neighborhoods east of I-15, offers a wide variety of facilities, and is a premier example of RB's thriving community centers. (photo taken August 2004)
